Frequently Asked Questions
Disconnects
- Do disconnects seem to happen when checking your mail? Outlook Express users have an option in their programs that sometimes get checked that will disconnect after Sending/Receiving mail. Click here for instructions to check this setting.
- Open Outlook Express
- Click "Tools" at top
- Click "Options" in this menu
- At the top of this window, Click the "Connection" tab
- CHECK the first box that says "Ask before switching dialup connection"
- Make sure the box that says "Hang up after sending and receiving" is NOT checked.
- Click OK at bottom of this window.
- See if this does not solve the disconnect problem
- Check the following settings for these Windows Operating Systems. Select your Operating System below:
- Windows 95/98 Users
- Click the Start Button. Move the cursor up to the Settings option, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel double Click the Internet Options icon.
- Click the Connections tab at the top.
- Here you will see the white window labeled "Dial-up settings". To the right of this box you will see a "Settings" button, Click Settings.
- Click the "Advanced" button at bottom right.
- Make sure the bottom two boxes are NOT checked that say "Disconnect if idle for XX minutes" and "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed"
- Click OK on the right side of this window.
- Click OK on the next two windows until back to Control Panel.
- Close Control Panel.
- Windows ME Users
- Click the Start Button. Move the cursor up to the Settings option, and then click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel double-click the Internet Options icon.
- Click the Connections tab at the top.
- Here you will see the white window labeled "Dialup settings". To the right of this box you will see a "Settings" button, Click Settings.
- Click "Properties" button toward bottom right.
- At top click the "Dialing" tab
- Uncheck "Enable idle disconnect:"
- Uncheck "Disconnect when connection may not be needed"
- Click OK on ALL windows until back to Control Panel
- Close Control Panel
- Does your phone line run through a Surge Protector or a Splitter? If so, run the phone line directly to the computer. Some of these devices can cause noise on the line, which can cause disconnects.
- Do you have Call Waiting on the phone line the computer is using? If so, this can cause disconnects when you get an incoming phone call while online. To disable, put *70, or 1170, at the beginning of your access number. Example *70,555-555-1212 -Please note the comma and no spaces in number. This will disable call waiting ONLY when connected to SiteOne Internet. For instructions click here
